This presentation discusses the unique challenges of caring for children and adolescents presenting with complex psychiatric, medical, and psychosocial needs. Drawing from our evidence based approaches to treatment and clinical experience in treating patients in our integrated medical, psychiatric and physical rehabilitation model at Nexus Children’s Hospital, we will discuss the efficacy of a collaborative care model, as well as the challenges and barriers that exist. The presentation will provide practical clinical strategies and highlight the transformative effects of an integrated interdisciplinary approach in meeting the diverse needs of these young patients and their families.
At the conclusion of this educational presentation, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the psychological and functional impacts to patients, family systems and communities when children and adolescents have untreated complex medical, psychiatric and psychosocial needs
- Describe evidence-based treatments for children with co occurring medical and psychiatric diagnoses & describe treatment strategies to address issues related to children and adolescents living in psychosomatic family systems
- Identify evidence based assessment metrics to establish treatment goals and plans of care for patients with psychiatric and medical needs
