Claritycon is an annual educational conference that explores the internal and external factors that impact the emotional, psychological and social well-being of young people. Since its creation in 2013, the conference has grown to reach over 500 attendees annually, ranging from educators, therapists, nurses, social workers, and mental health professionals.

"What Were They Thinking?!" Understanding Adolescent Brain Development and How to Respond Effectively

Have you ever been in a situation with a child or teen with challenging behavior and found yourself saying, "What were they thinking?!"
In this session we will talk about child and adolescent brain development and how to be effective in your work with children and teens. We will cover development, trauma, and common mental health needs that arise in this age rage before we move into discussing motivational interviewing and other tools to utilize when you get back to your agency.
This session will help participants to:
  • Understand how brain development and developmental stages impact and shape the behavior of children and adolescents.
  • Understand how trauma can impact behavior and developmental trajectory
  •  Learn how to respond to challenging behaviors, trauma responses, and common mental health needs of children and youth.
