Claritycon is an annual educational conference that explores the internal and external factors that impact the emotional, psychological and social well-being of young people. Since its creation in 2013, the conference has grown to reach over 500 attendees annually, ranging from educators, therapists, nurses, social workers, and mental health professionals.

Angry With a Chance of Tantrums: A Closer Look at Mood Disorders in Children and Teens

Disturbances in mood and mood disorders are highly prevalent in children and adolescents. However, in order to best help our kids and teens, we must be skilled at discerning where the symptomatology is arising from. Through a case-based, interactive approach, we will examine how different mood disorders manifest- paying special attention to unique presentations specific to this young population. Treatment (to include medication management, therapeutic techniques, and other interventions) will also be discussed.

Objectives:
  • Discuss the scope of mood disorders in children and teens, and identify reasons why they are difficult to effectively address.
  • Review various underlying etiologies responsible for disturbances in mood through a case-based approach.
  • Discuss treatment options for children/adolescents diagnosed with a mood disorder.
