This presentation provides additional information regarding immigrant youth in and out of shelter and home placements and the unique challenges that can impact their mental health. It will provide awareness for the community on how they can best support immigrant children once they are reunified with their caregivers. Additionally, it will provide insight into the clinical services offered while in care. We will explore challenges and discuss strategies to inspire fellow professionals to think of the clinical needs of this population and improve their access to mental health services. We will provide concrete examples of trauma-informed care along with culturally competent services.
Objectives:
- Focus on how clinical services aid immigrant children with multidisciplinary teams & challenges faced.
- Understand the mental health of immigrant children.
- Discuss cultural competency, along with recognizing acculturation gaps.
